A festive steam train trip is on the horizon for Feltham enthusiasts.

Christmas will come early when The Cathedrals Express steam train, hauled by 6201 Princess Elizabeth, stops at Feltham train station to pick up passengers on Thursday November 26.

People can step onboard the Royal locomotive, which will be serving mulled wine and mince pies, for a journey to Somerset where there will be a chance to get off at the village of Dunster for a special carol service, or stay on the train to the seaside town of Minehead and head to the Christmas market.

Marcus Robertson, chairman of Steam Dreams which operates The Cathedrals Express, said: “In the year that sees The Queen become our longest reigning monarch, it seems particularly fitting that we should be hauled on this trip, by the locomotive that was built in her honour 82 years ago.

"As ‘Lizzie’ takes the burden along The West Somerset Railway, passengers will be treated to some spectacular coastal views all the way to Minehead.

“There is always a very special atmosphere on board our Christmas trains and with two fabulous, but very different destinations to choose from, it promises to be a memorable way to kick off the festive season.”

Step off in Dunster and wander through the pretty village to the Parish and Priory Church of St George; enjoy a cup of tea and mince pie in Dunster Castle; as well as visit its many gift shops, boutiques and pubs.

For those keen to get some Christmas shopping ticked off their list, at Minehead railway station stall holders will be selling gifts and crafts and festive food and drink; or escape for a walk along the promenade and sandy beach.

Lizzie was built in 1933 and withdrawn from service in 1962 when she was purchased by a private owner and returned to the main line in 1976.

Tickets are available in four classes from premium standard at £99pp (£109pp to Dunster) to Pullman style dining at £239pp (£249pp to Dunster).
