Airfield staff are among the stars in the second episode of the behind-the-scenes documentary on the hub airport in west London.

Heathrow : Britain’s Busiest Airport series two episode two will dip into the work of the airside safety team, operational staff from British Airways as well airport staff who make sure the passenger experience is as smooth as possible.

The special three-part programme saw episode one highlight the work of security officers and animal handlers, and was watched by 3.7 million viewers last week.

Series one was a resounding success and was aired in June last year.

In part two, providing further insight into Team Heathrow’s work in running the airport will be Chris Simpson, Anasthasia McCarthy and Tony Singh among others.

Mr Sampson, an airfield operations officer from West Drayton who has worked at Heathrow for 10 years where his parents also have jobs, says his favourite moment was demonstrating the airport’s snow operation to chief executive John Holland-Kaye.

He said: “With such variation in my role, every day is different. Both the hardest and best part of the job is going from 0-100 at any given moment.

“Being filmed as part of the documentary was a great opportunity to show the small but important part I play in the daily running of the airport.”

Viewers will also meet the first female to work for British Airways on the airside safety team.

Ms McCarthy an aircraft movement crew leader who has worked at the airport for three years has Heathrow running through her veins, with her grandad and dad as former employees and her brother who has recently joined.

She said: “I love the buzz of working in a fast paced environment which is challenging and fun.

“Heathrow is like another world, a city in a city, which relies on people like me to deliver.

“A critical part of my job is constantly staying vigilant and being aware of your surroundings. The best part is communicating with the flight crew on the pushbacks or with air traffic control on the tows.”

There will also be another chance to meet members of the security team including Tony Singh from Ealing who is based at Terminal 4 and has worked at Heathrow for nearly 10 years.

He said: “The best bit of the job for me is meeting people from different backgrounds and helping them out wherever I can. Communicating with passengers from different countries can be difficult from a language perspective but we are trained in the best ways to handle them. The job is most rewarding when I have to overcome a challenge to achieve a positive outcome for people.”

Both his father and brother also work at the airport and one of his highlight was meeting Nicole Scherzinger and helping her when she was running late for her flight.

Episode 2 will air on Monday June 6, on ITV at 9pm on Monday 6th June.
