Fourteen admissions in one day. That kept the RSPCA Cat Adoption Centre at Southall busy on March 30.

That's a lot of unwanted cats needing homes - unfortunately, all too common in London.

So, as promised, this week I’m giving an update on where free and reduced-cost neutering is available locally.

But first, let's take a closer look at two of the fourteen cats admitted to Southall that day.

Lisa and Tiny were found dumped in a box with the message "Please look after me".

The RSPCA think that Lisa (nine to 12 months old) could be the mother of Tiny. With a possible nine-month-old mother, you don't have to be Einstein to calculate that, without neutering, a female cat can have lots of kittens during her life time.

So here is an update on where free and reduced-cost neutering is available. Please share this information freely.

Neutering your pets

The Mayhew Animal Home offers a range of free and low-cost neutering. They neuter bull breed dogs free. For details call 020 8962 8017. If no reply leave a message. Alternatively email vetclinic@mayhewanimalhome.org

The London Cat Care and Control Consortium (C4) offers free neutering of cats subject to eligibility criteria.

Cat owners can see if they are eligible on the consortium website and see if you are eligible, then look at the website to find a vet who participates in the scheme. Alternatively ask your vet if they participate in the scheme. Please note that if you live in the required area and have been feeding a stray cat for at least 14 days, the cat can be neutered under the scheme.

If you meet their eligibility criteria, the Blue Cross Hospital at Hammersmith offers neutering in exchange for a contribution. For details call 0300 7771800.

If you don't live in the right postcode but meet their other criteria, you may still receive financial help under their veterinary grant scheme. For details email vetgrant@bluecross.org.uk or call 0300 7771988.

If you live in Greater London and meet their eligibility criteria, Dogs Trust offers low-cost neutering. For details, go to Dogs Trust website and type low cost neutering into the search box or call their neutering hotline on 0333 2021148.

If you can home the gorgeous and very friendly Lisa and the equally stunning, Tiny, you can meet them at the RSPCA Centre, Burket Close, Southall.
