There's plenty of history to discover including a 14th century town hall, and the city played a major role in 1939 during World War II.

Perhaps a surprising addition to the TripAdvisor list is Costa Del Sol's Nerja, which comes fourth in the top 10.

It boasts 10 miles of powdery beaches and is located at the eastern tip of the area. The area is popular for tourists but hasn't been dominated by high rise buildings like surrounding destinations, so you can still get a panoramic view of the Mediterranean Sea.

Ljubljana in Slovenia is seventh on the TripAdvisor list

Slovenia's capital Ljubljana is seventh on TripAdvisor's top 10 list. The country sits between Italy and Austria and has always been proud of its unique heritage as it combines Mediterranean, German and Slovenian culture.

While its history dates back to the 11th century, Nuremberg is most often linked to the 20th century - specifically World War II.

It first served as the site of many pre-war Nazi rallies, was nearly levelled by Allied bombing, then was the site of the famous post-war Nuremberg Trials.
