A young theatre company is bringing to life the famous book The Young Visiters on stage at The Tabard Theatre in Chiswick.

Rough Haired Pointer’s cast of six will present the book also known as Mister Salteena’s Plan, by Daisy Ashford, written at the age of nine, of a child’s-eye view of the adult world, for four weeks from March 1.

The play tells the story of Mr Salteena in his 40s and his young, somewhat snobbish friend Ethel Monticue, who go to stay with a young Lord Bernard Clark, where Mr Salteena hopes to win Ethel’s heart.

He decides to brush up on his manners and takes a trip to London where one of Bernard’s friends The Earl of Clinchman, runs a training school for gentlemen.

Meanwhile, speaking looks are exchanged between the young Bernard and Ethel, and Mr Salteena’s plan is inevitably foiled.

Adapted and directed by Mary Franklin, The Young Visiters was championed by J.M. Barrie and first published in 1919, 28 years after it was written with idiosyncratic spellings.

The production promises to be full of double entendres and bring this funny story to life from Tuesday (March 1) to Saturday (March 26).

Tickets cost £10 from March 1 to 4 and following dates £15 to £17.
