THE credit crunch appears to have been a good thing for one local playwright, who has struck success by writing a satirical stage show about the financial troubles.
Credit Crunch: The Musical, penned by actress Hayley Nolan, of Sussex Road, Harrow, is appearing at New Players Theatre in the West End for one night only - due to the credit crunch!
Talking about her ideas for the play, 24-year-old Hayley says: "The director of Pineapple Studios, Maggie Paterson, came to me with the title of the play and asked me to write up some ideas.
"I actually came up with the entire storyline in a week, and managed to write myself into a role.
"It's an uplifting show. It is light entertainment and a comedy, but we're also taking it quite seriously as it is a difficult subject to deal with."
Hayley, who has lived in Harrow for five years, first became interested in theatre at the age of three when she joined the Starworks Operatic Society. Since then she has appeared in TV shows such as Cold Feet, Stars In Their Eyes, Girl Talk and Lunchtime Live.
She has recently been focusing on studying and teaching, having trained at RADA in scriptwriting and then teaching children at the Sylvia Young School of Arts.
Hayley is also trying to get local children involved in the theatre through Pop School Musical, a 10-week drama club held at the Harrow Arts Centre for seven to 11-year-olds, which starts in April.
Hayley adds: "I'm working on another musical at the moment, which I'm also writing the music to. Hopefully it could be produced in the next year."
