Performers have danced their way into the semi-finals of a prestigious Bollywood competition.

Twenty-one dancers who attended the Kenton audtions of the UK Bollywood Dance Championships 2008 won a place in the semi-finals.

One of the four regional heats of the inaugural competition were held at Kadwa Patidar Centre, in Kenmore Avenue,on April 18.

Among those who were selected to compete at the semi-finals on May 16 at the same venue were two groups - Pratibimb and Sliik Aziianz - and duo Chandni Siani and Asha Modha.

Competitor Ashmi Parekh, 13, said: "The judges were very strict,but they said that they really enjoyed my performance. I hope I will get a chance to go through to the semi finals.

"I absolutely love dancing and I am constantly working on improving my skills through regular Bollywood dance training."

Entrants impressed in a range of dances, such as belly dance, bhangra, classical Indian and hip hop.

The judged looked at five categories - style and dance, presentation, choreography, energy and enthusiasm, and facial expressions and costumes.

A TV crew from specialist cable network Channel Punjab filmed the action for a show to be broadcast later this year.
