London has arguably the best music scene around, with thousands of talented musicians emerging every day, most of which are unsigned acts waiting for their big break.

Unsigned Friday brings you the very best unsigned music artists from around the capital, as well as giving these acts a platform to promote their music.

This week, getwestlondon's Emily Chudy caught up with Hayes-based hip hop artist Ashleyi.

Ashleyi is not only a successful musician, but also - in a first for Unsigned Friday - is the creator and founder of his own independent record label, Do It Ya Self-Entertainment.

Ashleyi said: "I started doing music when I was 12-years-old. I grew up in a musical household. Music is second nature to me. When I was four or five-years-old I would literally watch music videos all day on a music television channel on cable called The Box and that's how I got into music.

"I grew up on listening and studying a lot of '90s and early '00s hiphop, which has had a strong influence on my musical style."

Ashleyi has just released a '90s-influenced project, 12 Days Of HipHop, which you can listen to on Soundcloud.

Ashleyi said: "When I was 16-years-old I did a one-week course on the music business and that's when I started to learn about the differences between major and independent record companies and how the music business operates.

"I've always wanted to own my own record label so when I was 19, I started my own independent record label called Do It Ya Self-Entertainment.

"I am self-managed and I market and fund all my music as well as recording and mixing all my new music. I have built my entire career through the Internet, which has allowed my music to reach millions of people from my bedroom."

Ashleyi has a strong local fanbase in west London, and has performed gigs all over the capital, including a performance at London Fashion Week.

Ashleyi said: "The biggest influence on my music is life itself, the ups and downs of life. My favorite artists are 2Pac, 50 Cent, Sting and Craig David.

"In the future I want to take my label to the next level as well as releasing a new EP, and I want to put on my fist headline show in my hometown by next year."

In a bold move, Ashleyi is also debuting a new personal form of communication, in which fans will be able to contact him directly rather than sticking to conventional methods such as Twitter or Facebook.

Ashleyi said: "I'm also changing the way I communicate with my true supporters through my new service called the D.I.Y Connection service. Through this service my true supporters can send me a text, WhatsApp message or email at any time."
