British trio The xx surprised fans with a tour announcement earlier this week and confirmed they would play a mini residency at London's O2 Academy Brixton.

The indie-pop group , who formed after meeting at the Elliott School in Putney, will visit the venue on March 8 to March 10 in support of their upcoming third studio album I See You.

Rumours circulated of the group's return to the live stage after fans uploaded letters containing free tickets inviting them to venues across Europe.

They'll be heading off on an extensive European tour visiting Paris, Milan and Stockholm to name a few, before returning to the UK.

It will mark the group's first headline tour dates in three years, that time has seen the recording of upcoming album I See You and Jamie xx releasing a Mercury prize nominated solo album.

Their latest album is due for release on January 13 in 2017 and features newly released track On Hold.
