Singer-songwriter Willie J Healey is readying to release his debut album and win over audiences across the UK with his creative sense of humour.

His knack for producing indie-pop tracks with interesting wordplay and visuals to match has been noted by listeners.

This year has gotten off to a pretty good start for the much buzzed about artist so far.

He's had mentions in Dork, DIY and Clash and played headline shows at The Boileroom and London's Sebright Arms.

Healey has released a number of new tracks and music videos including 'Lazy Shades of Pink' and a re-release of 'Grey' as well as supporting indie-pop group Palace on their tour.

He is also heading to Truck Festival this July for a set as well as supporting Ocean Colour Scene in Hull as part of the city's UK Capital of Culture celebrations.

We caught up with Willie following his string of UK live dates and asked about his upcoming debut album, beginnings and playing live.

What spurred you to pursue music as a career?

I'm not sure, I think it'd been bubbling away in my mind for years before I realised I wanted to do it. There was a moment in secondary school, the careers advice lady told me I should pursue my love for gold tones & hot licks.

Can you tell us a bit about your EP, Hey Big Moon's writing and recording process?

'Hey Big Moon' was an album I did in my bedroom. It was a real quick turn around. I think it took 4 days!

I just wanted it done quickly, I was fed up of waiting on people. It really helped me express my hatred for musical deadlines & templates.

Why not do an album in four days! It has very simple parts which I also find refreshing. I would write the songs in the day time then record them at night, I didn't get much sleep but had great momentum.

You have strong visuals in your music videos like Lazy Shade of Pink, is this as important to you as the music?

Maybe? I can't enjoy songs with great music but bad lyrics.
