London has arguably the best music scene around, with thousands of talented musicians emerging every day, most of which are unsigned acts waiting for their big break.

Unsigned Friday brings you the very best unsigned music artists from around the capital, as well as giving these acts a platform to promote their music.

This week, getwestlondon's Emily Chudy caught up with acoustic singer/songwriter Fingerpaint.

The singer, who uses the pseudonym Fingerpaint, began his career as a busker, before moving on to gigging in pubs and bars. An acoustic act, his style is folky and perfect for relaxing in the sun this summer.

Fingerpaint said: "I would say that my most obvious influence is Ed Sheeran, with being in a very similar genre to him, although with a slightly more folky twist. I also feel like I have a big influence from the likes of Passenger and, to a lesser extent, Mumford & Sons.

"I place my music in the singer-songwriter genre, although, because this is an extremely wide genre I would narrow my niche down to pop/folk.

"When I play live it’s usually just me, my guitar and a loop pedal but when I record I like to bring in lots of other instrumentation and production."

He added: "Coming from a very musical family, I've been surrounded by music for as long as I can remember so I suppose it was inevitable that I would follow this path. I started learning piano and singing when I was very young, maybe six or seven, but it wasn't until I was 12 that I started learning guitar and things really started moving forward.

"When I was 13 I started busking in Halifax as often as I could and I've been busking wherever I am since then. I made my first CD at 16 and started gigging in pubs at around the same time, before coming to London in September to study songwriting at The Institute of Contemporary Music Performance."

A music reviewer for Gigmit said: "Combining the catchy hooks and melodies of pop with the gentle and emotional attributes of folk all on an acoustic guitar, Fingerpaint is well on his way to becoming the next young musician to capture the hearts of the masses."

Fingerpaint has just launched the release of his EP, From The Cutting Room Floor, which is now available on iTunes.
