London has arguably the best music scene around, with thousands of talented musicians emerging every day, most of which are unsigned acts waiting for their big break.

Unsigned Friday brings you the very best unsigned music artists from around the capital, as well as giving these acts a platform to promote their music.

This week, getwestlondon's Emily Chudy caught up with acoustic singer/songwriter Ethan Beer.

Ethan Beer is an acoustic pop musician who lives in Hayes, and has just released brand new single, Like We Did.

The singer said: "I would describe my music as acoustic pop in a way, but probably edging on the more singer/songwriter side of that. I don't see myself writing guitar music for my entire life, this is just the start, so I don't want to label myself too much.

"All of the songs I write by myself; the single I just released, Like We Did, all of that's written by me and played by me. It's very much a solo project at the moment.

"Right now I'm still listening to the new Radiohead album on repeat, it's so good! My influences include Radiohead, Muse, The Beatles obviously - I don't know how you can't be influenced by them - Queen as well, and then for more solo artists, Damian Rice, Ed Sheeran, Newton Faulkner, James Bay... I joined the James Bay train really late but I actually really like his stuff."

From musical theatre to songwriting

The musician has been singing since the age of ten, having appeared in Les Miserables at The Queen's Theatre in Soho, before picking up a guitar in 2014 and going on to write his own material.

Ethan said: "Before I became like a singer/songwriter I did musicals. I was in Les Mis at the Queen's [Theatre], so I've been singing since I was about ten years old.

"In about 2014 I went to go to a festival in Switzerland to see Damian Rice. I just saw how he commanded the stage, at a festival, just him and a guitar and it was silent for an hour with just him singing, and I thought 'this guy's just living the dream'.

"That was a turning point for me really, this is what I want to do. I've only been playing acoustic guitar for about two years, and I've also been writing for about two years this September, so not long; I feel like the progress has been not too bad."

Ethan Beer has just released his first official single, Like We Did, which is available to stream on Soundcloud.

Ethan said: "The response has been really good so far, I submitted the song to the Laurel Canyon Music Awards and the guy liked it, so it might be in contention for 'song of the day'.

"Generally everyone who's heard it has said it's really good, it's got a good amount of plays for a first song... Everyone I've spoken to has had some good feedback.

The musician will also be releasing his debut EP this autumn, which will include Like We Did, as well as three new tracks.

Ethan said: "The plan is to fast-track an EP out so I have something physical to sell at gigs and give away at gigs, so people can walk away with the music. It's good if you have it there on the night."

Coming up this year, Ethan will be releasing his debut EP, as well as the music video for Like We Did, which was filmed at The Compass Theatre in Ickenham.

The music video will be released on the musician's YouTube channel in August.

Ethan said: "At the moment I'm not looking for instant fame... It's way more fun playing gigs! The plan is to just get people to listen to the EP, and then next year get as many festivals as possible, apply to Glastonbury and a lot of the fringe festivals.

"I'm going to do as many festivals as possible and then another EP next year; I've had two years of writing songs but not releasing anything, so I've got quite a lot of songs I just want to get out now."
