Conductor of local choir Kensington Singers, Hannah Brine, has won the BBC Music Day's Unsung Hero award for her commitment to the local community in her music work.

Hannah founded and conducts at Kensington Singers, but also leads choirs around London, including Victoria Park Singers in Hackney, for which she is being recognised for this award. Performances with this choir have raised £8,000 for charity.

Hannah said: "I'm deeply flattered that my choir took the time to nominate me and everyone is really excited that I actually won, in fact it feels like we all won!

"Our love of music is what has brought us together and I have been very lucky - the singers are so enthusiastic, dedicated and get involved as much as they can. We have so many skills and talents between us; the choir is a real group effort resulting in something very special.

"Rehearsal nights are great fun and we are all really proud the choir is receiving this attention."

The Unsung Hero award was a UK-wide search; people everywhere were asked to nominate someone who has had a significant impact on the local community.

Winners received a BBC Music VIP Pass, giving them and their friends access to BBC events including the Proms In The Park, Radio 2 Live In Hyde Park and BBC Music Awards.

One Victoria Park Singers choir member said: "I don't know if Hannah quite realises what she created when she set up Victoria Park Singers, bringing joy to so many lives through music.

"I've found my confidence again through singing, and I know I'm not the only one who has."

If you'd like to see Kensington Singers in action, their main summer concert, Samba in the City is taking place on Wednesday July 15 at Regent Hall on Oxford Street in Soho.
