The former BHS store in Uxbridge has been empty since last August after the iconic high street company closed down last year – but the new occupants have been revealed.

British Home Stores had a store in intu Uxbridge shopping centre, previously called The Chimes , for 15 years until the shop closed last August.

The shopping centre announced on Wednesday (March 22) that BHS would be replaced by the sports and leisure chain Decathlon.

Decathlon is due to open this summer and will occupy 18,000 square foot of the centre.

The London expansion manager at Decathlon, Ricardo Rodriguez, said: “Bringing Decathlon to intu Uxbridge is an important part of our strategy to make sports accessible to as many people as possible and to introduce more stores in densely populated urban locations.

“As a high-footfall destination shopping centre, intu Uxbridge is an ideal location for us to reach more sports users in west London.”

Decathlon has 28 stores across the UK and the new shop will cater for over 70 sports including surfing, cycling, football and horse riding.

The shopping centre has recently celebrated the openings of new stores – Toys 'R' Us, Natwest bank and a bigger Next store.

Centre manager at intu Uxbridge, Laurie Taylor, said: “We are delighted to announce that Decathlon will be joining us at intu.

“With the demand for health, fitness and sports growing, Decathlon makes a great addition to our mix of retailers across the centre in time for summer.”
