There is no arguing a great tasting gin can be hard to beat, if you are a gin lover of course, but a gin which incorporates an aspect of your Christmas dinner? Now that just makes it even better!

Portobello Road Gin believes it has made the world's first Pechuga Gin which essentially is gin distilled with turkey breast - so, vegetarians, you may want to steer clear of this one.

Don't worry though, you won't find bits of turkey floating in your G&T, the raw turkey breast (or pechuga as it translates to in Spanish) is suspended in the copper gin still, slowly cooking in the vapours and adding a subtle flavour to the spirit.

With 13 added botanicals including apples, plums, cinnamon, cassia bark and nutmeg, it certainly makes for the perfect tipple at Christmas parties.

Master distiller for Portobello Road Gin, Jake Burger, distilled the gin in a 400 litre copper alembic still, using an organic turkey breast, 13 botanicals and of course, Portobello Road Gin's signature 171 blend gin.

The gin was distilled in a 400 litre copper pot

The limited edition Director’s Cut No:3 Pechuga Gin pays homage to a unique distillation process used by Mexico's artisan Mezcal producers, whereby raw chicken or turkey is used to add flavour to spirits.

"My love for gin is matched equally by my passion for tequila and mezcal," said Burger.

"and so for the third instalment in our Director's Cut series it was a natural choice for me to look across the Atlantic and take inspiration from our Mexican spirit-producing brothers and sisters."

Jake Burger talks gin enthusiasts through the process

He added: "As the alcohol vapours pass through the turkey breast during distillation, they add something almost indefinable to the gin.

"You wouldn’t really say it was turkey flavoured gin, the flavour is very subtle, and while it adds it also takes away, absorbing some of the more intense fruit flavours and stopping them from overwhelming the taste of the gin."

In go the botanicals...

"With its warming spices and dried fruits, this poultry-infused potable develops a distinctly festive flavour and we think that Christmas presents a perfect opportunity to drink this very special and uniquely indulgent gin."

"So with the launch of what we believe to be the world’s first Pechuga Gin, as well as one of the most festively flavoured spirits, I wish you a Merry Christmas - or ‘Feliz Navidad’ as they say in Mexico."

There are 13 different botanicals in the gin

The Director's Cut is a small-batch gin launched every year to mark the birthday of Portobello Road Gin and its founding director Ged Feltham, and allows for creativity and exploration in the distillation process.

Previous Director's Cut blends include a gin made with juniper berries hand-smoked in Irish peat and another made using asparagus sourced from Cambridgeshire.

The Director's Cut No:3 Pechuga Gin costs £35 per bottle and is available to buy from Portobello Road Gin's website , or at The Distillery shop, which is located in Portobello Road, Notting Hill .
