Thai Square Putney Bridge has been boasting about some delicious new dishes created by executive chef Oula, formerly of the Blue Elephant.

Combined with a beautiful view from the huge windows overlooking Putney Bridge, getwestlondon just had to go and try the new delicacies.

Sadly, I soon discovered that just one of the dishes shown on the new tasting or executive menus handed to us were vegetarian, and it didn't appeal to me as I'm pretty picky.

This was a shame, but my dining partner agreed to sample some of the new meat dishes and I asked for the old menu (still offered as well) and chose something else.

He went for the three course tasting menu (£20 per person in August). He started with the baked aubergine with quail egg, sweet pepper, minced chicken breast and prawn, spicy lime dressing and truffle oil.

He’s not a huge fan of seafood and was worried that the prawn might overpower the dish but it actually worked very nicely with the spices.

It wasn’t something he would normally go for but he was glad he tried it and it was nicely set out too.

He then moved onto the Beef in the Jungle - grilled beef ribs with fresh Thai herbs dressing.

We thought the name was quite exciting and the dish definitely lived up to it.

The meat fell off the bone, the herbs and spices brought out plenty of flavour and it was just lovely, I was told.

It does seem like the new executive additions to the menu are successes, then.

Meanwhile, I had the vegetarian spring rolls with sweet chilli sauce to start followed by the vegetarian green curry.

Both were absolutely delicious – they were the best spring rolls I’ve had in a long time and the green curry again was spicy and full of flavour.

The sticky rice that came with both of our mains set them off nicely too.

The food was very speedy all evening and beautifully presented.

Next I had the Thai Square Full Moon, featuring two types of Thai rum, while my friend enjoyed the Mai Tai.

To finish, we ordered what turned out to be a very generous portion of crème brûlée as the final part of the tasting menu, plus the chocolate lava cake, which was absolutely delicious and probably the highlight of my meal.

Tiny bits of fruit added an extra kick and a mango sorbet stopped it being too rich.

The view of Putney Bridge from Thai Square Putney

To top off all this good food, the view onto the river by Putney Bridge is a real stunner and Thai Square have made a real effort with the interior décor too.

What’s more, the staff were incredibly friendly and helpful throughout the meal.

If you want to give Thai food a go, you can’t go wrong here.
