The fabulous location of The Gun is undeniable.

Situated on the River Thames in Coldharbour, the pub has a terrace with spectacular views of the O2.

Me and my guest had dinner at The Gun on a Saturday evening in October, meaning we saw the monument in the daylight turn to glistening lights as night fell.

Luckily, it's not just the views that impress at The Gun, as the overall atmosphere and food is fantastic.

I started with the gazpacho which, in fairness, is pretty difficult to get wrong, but the addition of the roasted beetroot and compressed cucumber cubes made it extra refreshing.

My guest, who was enjoying a birthday meal (cheeky of me I know) had the oysters.

On arrival, she looked rather worried as she remembered that she had a rather unpleasant set of oysters last time she chose the dish off a menu but on trying them, she was very impressed.

My friend carried on her meal of luxury with the rib-eye steak. When I asked her how it was, she simply said: "Unbelievable."

The "unbelievable" sirloin steak

Unfortunately I couldn't try it (the perils of being a vegetarian) but she said it was cooked exactly how she asked for it (which was medium rare if you're interested).

I went for the homemade farfalle with buttered peas, fevs, samphire, salsa verde and vegetable crisps - now there's a mouthful... literally (sorry).

It was absolutely delicious and the crisps in particular added a welcome crunch to what could have been a very soft dish.

And then there was dessert. Disclaimer, I am a massive peanut butter fan and had my eye on this ever since I first saw the menu online.

It didn't disappoint and would be any peanut butter lover's dream.

A little stuffed, my friend went for an apricot sorbet, which was refreshing and very yummy indeed, although she couldn't quite finish it (might have been the massive steak and chips).

All in all, I had a delightful evening at The Gun. The prices are possibly a little high if you're expecting pub food prices but for a special night out, I would say it's definitely worth it.

The food, paired with the absolutely lovely staff (they even offered us a blanket) and the spectacular views will make for a night to remember.
