On a leafy Wimbledon street lurks a slice of Americana straight out of the concrete jungle.

Nyeat offers classic American fare from its Leopold Street location, including lobster, steaks and burgers - obviously!

Its decor is solid gold hip-hop and so is its rather loud in-house playlist.

It’s a perfect spot for groups or filling up before a long night of partying, although you may be feeling rather heavy when you leave. I know I was.

What makes this place a cut above your regular high street burger and steak chains is its impressive signature cocktails, served in a smoking stand of dry ice, they’re wholly instagrammable and incredibly moorish.

We had six. They’re made to secret recipes too, so you can’t get them anywhere else but here.

Inside Nyeat, Wimbledon

I started with a Perfect LA Smile, a gin based creation described as a “clean and easy to drink blend”, a fair assessment - it was gone in no time, and vehemently delicious.

My compatriots, a PhD student from the University of Singapore and an incredibly experienced lab technician marvelled at the dry ice billowing from the drinks.

They then proceeded to tell me stories of lab mischief involving liquid nitrogen. These cocktails, are more than ice-breakers.

The technician ordered a Miami Vice, another gin blend with cranberry, I tried a little, it was just as delicious as mine.

Miami Vice - delicious

Now for some food. We tried the spicier wing option - "Voodoo".

They were those Louisiana-hot-sauce-soaked-bad-boys that leave your lips burning and your heart racing, I wish I had ordered two loads.

The wings were excellently cooked and I liked that they came whole in three parts, a touch of class.

We also ordered the prawns but I have to say I was a little disappointed with the subtle flavour after my Voodoo wings.

The soon-to-be doctor in the house ordered a Connecticut Burger for his main course; a double homemade burger with lettuce, tomato, mustard mayo, a drizzle of bbq sauce, tobacco onions, Monterey jack cheese - all in a brioche bun.

It was a hearty monster of a thing and he tackled it with a knife and fork, good show.

It came with chunky chips that I dutifully polished off for him. They were delicious.

Connecticut Burger - huge

I ordered the Nyeat Burger, when in Rome, right?

Also a double homemade beast, with turkey rashers - a new one for me - lettuce, tomato, mustard mayo, cheddar cheese, and gherkins all served in a brioche bun.

It was a tough challenge and I left some bun behind but I put in the work and got through it.

The burger was a little dry for my pallet but otherwise delicious.

I ordered sweet potato fries which were about a 7/10 on my own personal sweet potato fries scale. Patent pending.

A 10oz fillet steak was ordered by the capable laboratory labourer, with garlic sauce no less. Somehow she was kind enough to give me the last bite.

At this point I regretted ordering the burger.

It was to die for. Perfectly cooked, medium rare - just as she ordered.

The dutiful and pleasant waitress convinced us to have dessert after another round of cocktails.

Two Brambles, more gin, and a Vesper, also more gin plus vodka. Delicious. Don’t skip on the cocktails here, definitely budget for it.

Then I delved into the lemon meringue pie like it would be last meal for some time, this is because I was now more full than the tube at 8am.

The scientists split a chocolate brownie that I got involved with, it was rather delectible.

I'll be back soon, I hope.
