Boar heads, dead butterflies and what look like sheep skulls adorn the walls of the darkly lit Ealing Park Tavern whose Wednesday curry night is not for the faint-hearted.

The moody gastro pub offers a classic pub curry deal with a twist.

If it's chicken korma you're after you may want to give this menu a miss because the curries all contain game meat.

How much does it cost?

Wednesday night is pub quiz night and for £20 those taking part can enjoy a curry as well as the chance to win a £100 bar tab.

The Ealing Park Tavern offers the wildest curry night in west London

What's on the menu?

The game curry specials are venison shank dhaba, wild boar dopiaza, Bombay pigeon and pheasant Hyderaabadi mirchi ka salan.

Each curry in the deal comes with pilau rice, naan bread and a pint of Long Arm Brewing Co. beer.

We had Venison shank dhaba with pilau rice, naan bread

We were seated beside a roaring fire and along with our quiz sheets were presented with a bottle of red wine that the pub's sommelier promised would compliment the venison curry.

While the Argentine Valdevina, Malbec is delicious, it isn't included in the £20 curry deal and costs £7.40 per 175ml glass and £28 per bottle, for those wanting to try it.

The curry arrived at the end of the quiz's first round just in time to distract us from the fact we were losing miserably.

The small plate of naan bread, papadums and dips we were given looked straight out of the packet/jar and tasted disappointing.

The sides and dips were disappointing

The pilau rice also lacked seasoning but the venison curry itself was delicious.

Rich and full of flavour it packed a perfect punch and picked up the temperature beside an already toasty fire.

The high quality of the venison shank used in the curry was obvious from its flavour and almost eclipsed the less decent sides.

The venison curry didn't look pretty but it packed a delicious punch

The Ealing Tavern itself has an eccentric and cosy atmosphere making it a fun spot for those looking for a curry night with a twist.

Despite coming last in the quiz I'd be tempted to return and sample the other game curries on offer but maybe minus the sides.
