For many Londoners, a morning coffee is a ritual.

Forget mornings, a coffee every few hours - especially on a Monday - is a ritual.

It's usually your regular, to takeaway, usually from a place you can trust not to ruin it.

But when was the last time you got to know a little bit more about what you're drinking?

Step in Coffee Island, which opened 9 weeks ago in Upper St Martin's Lane Leicester Square.

Coffee Island in Upper St Martin's Lane invited getwestlondon to a blending masterclass

The chain, which has Greek origins, has set up shop in west London and boasts a cuppa like you've never had before.

getwestlondon were invited to a masterclass at the new café to see what made it so unique and as coffee lovers ourselves, gave it our true verdict.

1. The specialists WANT to help you discover the flavour for you

getwestlondon were given a tour of the new space in west London

All of the staff were wonderful at the Coffee House. They have spent weeks learning how to make a huge range of coffees to suit their visitors taste.

And best of all, they're enthusiastic about it. Ask them what they recommend and give them your likes and dislikes.

Then sit back and watch as they whip up your brew of choice.

2. The selection of food and tea is as superb as the coffee

It's all about the coffee - but not just the coffee. There's an excellent range of cakes, sandwiches and mouth watering pastries to accompany your coffee.

3. They can make your own coffee blend for you to use at home

Brew coffee at home? This is definitely the place for you if you're looking for something a little different.

We were given a tick-sheet to break down what sort of flavours and textures we liked - nutty, strong aftertaste, thick, delicate etc - and they whipped up a blend specially made just for us.

We opted for the whole beans, but if you have a Nescafé machine, they grind them down for that too.

4. They have five brewing methods which turns the place into a coffee science lab

The coffee specialists have - in their words - a 'coffee phd' - and they want to find your favourite flavour

One of the most incredible aspects of Coffee Island is how they brew coffee.

According to the specialists, most places have one or two ways to brew coffee.

But they believe each different way makes it taste completely different and so they have five methods - Chemex, Aeropress, V60, Syphon and Ibrik extraction in ember.

As the video shows, some of the methods made the coffee house look like a laboratory, mixing the art of coffee making with the science behind it.

5. It has excellent and reliable wifi

For those hoping to stick around and get some work done in this central, but discreet spot, there's reliable internet and a regular flow of caffeine.

6. It's been accredited by the Speciality Coffee Association

One of few places to be granted this, Coffee Island has been given the certificate of approval from the Speciality Coffee Association, which recognises that they take coffee seriously.
