A climbing wall, carousel and crafts corner are just some of the fun and games at the Southfield Primary School's annual Sunflower Fete this month.

A masquerade theme children's fancy dress parade will be the highlight of the event with prizes for the best mask and outfit, to be judged by a special guest, on June 14.

There will be fun for all the family with other fete attractions including a bouncy castle, face painting, football tournament, coconut shy and beat the goalie, plus stalls selling anything from second hand books and plants to toys and bric-a-brac.

2. Fine displays of plants and herbs in historic gardens

Gardening enthusiasts are sure to find plenty to interest them in the Chiswick House Kitchen Garden.

The walled gardens are not usually open to the public, but on open days, visitors can explore the vegetables, herbs and other produce.

Volunteers will be on hand to answer any questions about the community garden project and its development, and potential volunteering opportunities.

Visitors will also be able to purchase Kitchen Garden produce.

All funds raised support the continued preservation of Chiswick House Gardens.

3. A little taste of Rio comes to Feltham

Warm up for the World Cup at a party being hosted by pub landlord Chris Beauchamp and his team of bar tenders.

Get a taste of Brazilian music and free chilli nachos to celebrate the opening ceremony, on June 12.

And for as long as the England team remains in the tournament, there will be a large projected screen inside the sports area of the pub, a temporary Budweiser-sponsored garden bar, three new ales, and a team of staff dressed as buxom wenches to provide table service.

4. Great Southern sounds direct from Nashville

Making another appearance at the Twickenham Festival – by public demand – are Nashville-based musicians Jeni Hankins and Billy Kemp.

This modern-day Johnny Cash and June Carter have their roots deep in the traditional music of the Appalachians.

They wowed audiences last year and are part of this year’s TwickFolk line-up at The Cabbage Patch.

5. Lots to be fought over at monthly auction

Turn unwanted items into cash or pick up a bargain or two.

A general auction is held on the first Saturday of each month. Lots range from household and electrical items to paintings, antiques and collectibles.

Items for lots will be accepted from 3pm, viewing starts at 6pm and the hammer will go down at 7pm.

First-time sellers will be required to present some form of identification.
