The weather's getting colder, the kids are on their half term holidays and, come Sunday (October 25) at 2am, summer will be well and truly over when the clock goes back, and we all try and cling on to every last little bit of daylight.

But it's not all doom and gloom! We've got nine ideas of things you can do with that extra hour added on to your Sunday to help you forget all about the looming winter months.

Go for brunch

Spare hour? What better way to spend it than eating. An extended brunch will set you up for the rest of the winter months or, alternatively, a Bloody Mary or two can help drown your wintry sorrows.

For a classy but traditional brunch, head to Tom's Kitchen in Chelsea; brunch there is served until 3.30pm so if you're intent on getting that extra hour in bed you'll still have time for a hearty meal as well! From brunch classics (Eggs Royale anyone?) to a full menu with a 1.3kg Tomahawk Steak (!) all party members will be spoilt for choice.

Do some exercise

Of course, not all of us are inclined to swap the prospect of an extra hour in bed for some muscle-building, but for those that are why not take a trip to Hampton Pool to add some variety to your usual exercise routine.

This beautiful 36-metre lido may be a bit off the beaten track (although there are buses there from Hammersmith and Richmond) but it is well worth the journey. The outdoor pool is heated to 28 degrees all year round and there is lane swimming for serious swimmers.

Escape to somewhere green

With an extra hour on your hands why not spend the time travelling to somewhere green and wholesome to recharge those batteries (you'll need them fully charged with half term officially starting on Monday). The countryside around west London boasts a vast selection of beautiful sign-posted walks – and plenty can be carefully altered to include a pub or two on the way round.

GPS Routes has a huge selection of different walks. It states the distance of each and provides a clearly marked map and directions, so you wont get lost. We like the Colne Valley Trail, which goes from Uxbridge to Rickmansworth following the Grand Union Canal and takes in many picturesque lakes on the way.

Sample some street food and wander around a market

What better way to spend a relaxing weekend morning than shopping in a fabulous market?

Portobello Market in Notting Hill is one of the most famous markets in London, and it's right on our doorstep! Sample the best street food and look around for hidden gems with your extra hour on Sunday.

With one of the biggest collections of antiques worldwide, spend some time looking for a buried treasure after having a luxurious lie-in!

Learn a new skill

Spare hour? Now is the time to start learning that new skill that you've been promising to do for ages. Always wanted to learn sign language? Wish you knew how to bake a cake? Use this hour wisely and get started!

With winter just around the corner, why not start on that scarf you've been promising yourself you will knit for the past five years? Use a website with handy step by step guides which will have you mastering the basics quite easily within an hour.

Visit a museum

With an extra hour in the morning to carry out all those tasks you have to get done on a Sunday anyway, you'll have more time to do something a bit different in the afternoon.

Head to Bloomsbury and pay a visit to the incredible little Cartoon Museum. The museum has three main galleries displaying original artwork from British cartoons and comics and hosts a great variety of exhibitions. On at the moment is 'Alice in Cartoonland' which is sure to entertain both adults and children. It features Alice and her Wonderland friends portrayed by cartoonists, satirists and caricaturists over the past 150 years.

Head to the farm

If you have young children, heading to the farm is a perfect way to spend some extra time on a Sunday morning before it gets too chilly.

Spend the day surrounded by cute piggies and cheeky llamas at Hounslow Urban Farm; let your children feed the sheep and goats, or if you're feeling brave, hold a snake or spider in the creepy crawly section.

Go to a concert

With an extra hour in the morning to get all of your errands done and have a well-earned lie-in, you'll have extra time in the evening to treat yourself to a brilliant concert.

The wonderful Bella Hardy will be playing at Bush Hall on Sunday evening, showcasing her seventh solo album "With The Dawn"... So why not relax and enjoy an evening of chilled out music before the madness of half-term begins?

Go trampolining

London's first ever trampoline park opened this summer in West Acton, and it's loads of fun!

Oxygen Freejumping is 27,000sq-ft and offers hour-long freejumping sessions with access to dodgeball courts, air bags, 'walk the wall trampolines' and an obstacle course... And it now offers 45-minute fitness classes for adults.

If you're looking to squeeze some fun and exercise for you and the kids this Sunday, what better way to do it than bouncing?!
