A HUGE range of events and activities for the whole family to enjoy will be on offer this weekend at the 85th annual Middlesex Town and Country Show.

The Countryside Arena will host a ferret race, a bamboo fishing rod display, a Cash in the Attic-style event, an owl display, sheep dogs, an angling demonstration and an array of classic vehicles.

In the theatre section there will be belly dancing, ballet and drummers.

Other demonstrations will include chainsaw carving, floral art, adult education, photography and art, a blacksmith, and produce from allotments.

There will also be helicopter rides, an area for children to play with paint and clay, fun fair rides, parrots hamsters.

Food, gifts and crafts can be bought and there will be contests including the Middlesex Creative Writing and Poetry Competition and Hillingdon Adult Education Competition.

The show will be open from 9.30am to 6pm on Saturday and Sunday at the Middlesex Showground, Uxbridge, UB8

1NS. Admission is £8 for adults, £7.50 for senior citizens and £3 for children and tickets are cheaper if bought in advance.

2PHOTOGRAPHER Caroline Forbes reveals striking and evocative images of the British landscape in her latest exhibition. She started her career as a dark room assistant to photographer Fay Goodwin and was inspired to take up photography by an exhibition of the work of Cartier Bresson in 1970.

She is now probably best known for her portraits of politicians, writers and musicians from Gordon Brown to Elvis Costello.

This exhibition at the Apothecary Gallery in Hammersmith shows her other love - landscape photography.

Over the years she has done photography for several album covers, including a lot of work for PSI Records.

This glass has class

AN ARTIST who has won a prestigious V&A contest is holding her first one-woman show in Ealing.

Cathryn Shilling's glass work has been catching the eyes of collectors and her Memory Surfing piece has just won the glass category in the V&A's Inspired By competition.

Before this one-woman show she has been in a number of London collective shows including the Cohesion Glass Network's Blast! Exhibition at the Zest Gallery and Glass Echoes at the Crypt Gallery as well as Among the Trees at Parndon Mill in Harlow. She first studied in the

US, having moved there with her family after a graphic design career.

She went on to create a large and varied collection of kiln formed and hot glass pieces.

Tea time for tigers

A TEA-GUZZLING tiger is back on the road in this delightful family show at the Beck Theatre.

Packed with magic, singalong songs and plenty of chaos, this will be a firm favourite with the very young, and maybe their young-at-heart parents. When the doorbell rings just as Sophie and her mum are sitting down to tea the last thing they expect is a huge stripy tiger. A stunning stage adaptation of this tale of teatime mayhem, expect to be surprised!

It is aimed at ages three and above.

Theatre students in their element aided by Noah and Frankie Howerd

AMANDA Redman's Artists Theatre School is presenting its stunning new show, Element Soup, at the Questors Theatre.

This fast-moving revue by Lin Sagovsky celebrates the elements of earth, wind, fire and water from the Big Bang to the Apocalypse and beyond. The 80-strong cast of all ages go to heaven and through hell, from an underwater world to the Underworld, through ice storms and earthquakes with a little help from Noah, Frankie Howerd, Esther Williams, Michael Fish, Joanna Lumley, and a few other famous personalities as you've never quite seen them before.

The Artists Theatre School, based at Ealing Studios, was founded by Amanda, an Ealing resident and star of TV's New Tricks, 10 years ago. Professional artists teach students of all ages and abilities, giving many a springboard into a career in TV and theatre. The shows help to build confidence and commitment.
