Sax Appeal

A POPULAR jazz night will host the Sax Appeal Big Band this month. Derek Nash was voted one of the top five saxophone players in the UK at the 2002 Hamlet British Jazz Awards.

A member of the Jools Holland Rhythm and Blues Orchestra since 2003, he plays alto in that band's impressive front line of five saxophones.

He is also the leader of Sax Appeal, the successful modern jazz ensemble voted best small group in the 2000 Post Office British Jazz Awards.

True account of a Holocaust survivor

A NEW musical, full of pathos and humour, tells the true story of Irene, also known as Renya, a 17-year-old survivor of the Holocaust in Belgium who has a wartime romance with a British soldier.

After half a century of marriage, he finally tells their story.

The music is composed by Dudley Cohen, founder of the Zemel Choir and its musical director for 20 years.
