Ealing will enjoy 50 weeks of free tennis lessons at Elthorne Park’s courts, starting this Saturday (October 3), thanks to a national sports charity.

Tennis For Free (TFF), in partnership with the council, the LTA and professional coach Matt Cattaway, will provide all equipment for players of any age.

The charity is investing in 50 Tennis For Free park sites across the UK over the next three years, helping approximately 40,000 new people to experience the TFF fun sessions.

“I am really happy to be involved with this brand new project that is backed by both Ealing Council and Tennis For Free,” said Mr Cattaway, who will be managing the scheme.

“The Tennis For Free sessions offer our site a kick-start to grow participation and get people involved. The session on Saturdays can give everyone the chance to take part, irrespective of standard or experience.”

TFF supporters include Judy Murray, BBC tennis commentator Andrew Castle and ex-Grand Slam winner Pat Cash.

Councillor Bassam Mahfouz, cabinet member of transport, environment and leisure, said: “Despite having the world’s premier tennis tournament down the road, we had to wait over 70 years to see another British winner of Wimbledon.”

“Tennis is fun, easy to get to grips with and keeps you active: a game for all ages and this offer to learn and play for free is an ace opportunity not to be missed. Our parks are a perfect place to get together, have fun and learn new sports.”

TFF started in 2004 and is a registered charity founded by comedian Tony Hawks.
