The August bank holiday is almost upon us, with the long weekend stretching from Saturday August 29 to Monday August 31.

With a whole extra day to enjoy in the sunshine (well, we can dream!) we've rounded up some of the best events going on over the weekend from around west London:

Festivals

Notting Hill Carnival - Sunday August 30 and Monday August 31

London's most hotly-anticipated Carnival is coming to town this August bank holiday! Get your Carnival outfit on and enjoy music, dance and delicious Caribbean food at this festival. Officially, the parade will take place over two days, however, there will also be children's events across the weekend.

Theatre

Fame the Musical - Thursday August 27 to Saturday August 29

The Beck Theatre's summer project production this year is Fame!

Based on the hit '80s film, Fame the Musical tells the story of a group of talented young students, striving to be the best in the tough world of show biz. Tickets range from £12 to £15.50.

Bruises is Nadia Cavelle's debut play; a playful yet thought-provoking dramedy about identity and sexuality, with a brilliant cast, including Kirsty Rider and Eva-Jane Willis. Tickets cost from £15 to £17.

Machel Montano in Concert: On My Way - Friday August 28

Machel Montano is a Soca artist from Trinidad, who is set to supercharge the Eventim Apollo this August.

With musical collaborations with Wyclef Jean, Shaggy, Pitbull, Arianna Grande and Nigeria's Timaya under his belt, this artist is well worth a watch.

Watercolour workshop 'In and Out of the Garden' - Friday August 28

A watercolour workshop at Hogarth House with Liz Butler, artist member of the Royal Watercolour Society will be held this summer.

Come along and improve your watercolour and observational skills, while painting indoors from seasonal botanical specimens or outside in the beautiful garden!

GI20 - Saturday August 29

GI20, or 'Gone in 20 Minutes' is a showcase of six brand-new projects from a range of artists, performed in and around Bell Square.

Expect to be transported into new and inspiring worlds, interact with clever installations and meet many eccentric characters in this fun-filled day for the whole family.

This event is free of charge.

Museums

Coral Reefs: Secret Cities of the Sea - daily

Marvel at this amazing new coral reef display at the National History Museum, with incredible marine environments and fish species to look at.

Must-see attractions include a virtual reef dive, where visitors can see coral and fish in the aquarium, the venomous blue-ringed octopus, and the historic coral gathered by Charles Darwin.

Summer fairs

Summer Fair at Eastcote Cricket Club - Sunday August 30

See what all the 50 Shades fuss is about by watching the film at a beautiful location. Kensington Roof Gardens has collaborated with Rooftop Film Club to bring you great films with a sunset view!
