Graduate artists hold exhibition prior to taking on the world

GRADUATE artists from across the globe will display works in Brent as part of a scheme to help them get on to the first rung of the career ladder.

The group show, Creative Motive, which begins on June 25, has two themes. Under the title Icons, exhibitors have produced pieces based loosely on celebrities and figureheads of the 20th Century, while in Futures, they have depicted the positive side of life in the 21st Century.

It is part of a training and development programme designed to give participants who are studying or have recently left a course in the area more exposure within the art and design industry.

Enjoy Niel'smusic

ENJOY a lunchtime music concert in the calm surroundings of a church today (Thursday).

On his third visit to St John the Baptist in central Harrow, performer Niel du Preez will play Scarlatti's Sonata in D minor, K 491, Schubert's Sonata in G major, D 894 and finally Mendelssohn: Variations Èrieuses in D minor, Op 54.

Mr du Preez, a skilled classical pianist originally from Port Elizabeth, South Africa, said: "I always try to play something new from my repertoire along with something old.

"Mendelssohn is a technically quite challenging piece whereas Schubert is a larger scale work at 40 minutes, and the challenge is to concentrate and keeping the unity of the pieces together."

An oldie but a goldie

A TRADITIONAL fairytale with a twist...

The story of Goldilocks is brought to life by puppets, singing, slapstick comedy, mime and sign language by the Krazy Kat Theatre Company, a touring visual theatre troupe established in 1982.

Called Goldilocks and How Many Bears? and directed by Caroline Parker, this take on the well-known porridge-loving youngster is a 50-minute madcap and surreal one.

It is aimed at children but since the show features little dialogue and an emphasis on movement and action, it will appeal to a broad spectrum of ages and, by its nature, audiences who cannot speak English.
