The X Factor audition due to take place in London on Tuesday (July 14) has been CANCELLED.

The news comes after the first-round auditions in Manchester on Monday (July 6) were cancelled, too, following the death of Simon Cowell's mother, Julie.

Applause Store, which offers free audience tickets to many UK TV shows, sent an email to fans who had tickets for both audition sessions in London on Tuesday revealing they will not be going ahead.

But auditions on the other days will still be taking place.

The email read: "We are so sorry but it has just been confirmed to us that both recordings of The X Factor Auditions in London on TUESDAY JULY 14 have been cancelled due to a bereavement.

"The rest of the auditions are still going ahead.

"Please make a request now for a different available date/time and get PRIORITY TICKETS!

"We really apologise for obvious inconvenience this must be causing you, but the situation is entirely out of our control. We thank you for your understanding."

Details of why Tuesday's audition has been cancelled are not yet known.

Fans were quick to take to their Twitter accounts, with many expressing their disappointment that they won't be able to try out for the programme.

One wrote: "So X Factor auditions on Tuesday have been cancelled looks like I'm just spending the full day in London then".

Another posted: "Gutted that X Factor recordings have been cancelled on Tuesday".

One tweeted: "The X Factor auditions in London on Tuesday July 14 have been cancelled".

And while some were disappointed, they also offered sympathy to Simon.

X Factor and Britain's Got Talent judge Simon Cowell was close to his mother

One wrote: "I'm gutted X factor is cancelled on Tuesday but I totally understand why and I feel so bad for Simon I'm sure I'll have another".

ITV bosses also confirmed the news to The Sun newspaper, leaving the new judging line-up, including Rita Ora, Nick Grimshaw and Cheryl Fernandez-Versini, waiting to hear for news.

Julie, a former dancer, reportedly died of a stroke and had spent time in a hospital in London recently, a family source told the paper.

Mrs Cowell, 89, was the mother of four boys - Nicholas, Simon, Tony and Michael, and step-mother to John and June.

Following news of her death, Simon's close friend Sinitta, who knew Simon's mum well, posted: "Dearest beloved friend died today, so lost without her, but the finest, happiest memories and lessons remain of my Beautiful Mother-Look."

Former X Factor winner Sam Bailey wrote to Simon on Twitter: "@SimonCowell so sorry to hear your mum has sadly passed away x heaven has gained another angel x."

Simon was close to his mother and she was reportedly pleased to have seen him settle down with girlfriend Lauren Silverman, who gave birth to his first son, Eric, in February last year.

Mirror TV has contacted an X Factor spokesman for comment.
