Tom Holland, who was born in Kingston and attended Wimbledon College, has been named as the new Spiderman for upcoming film, a Spiderman re-boot.

Aside from Spiderman, 19-year-old Holland has also starred in Billy Elliot: The Musical, Wolf Hall, and The Impossible.

Taking over the role from Andrew Garfield, Holland will have a cameo as Spiderman in the upcoming film, Captain America: Civil War, before starring in the standalone Spiderman film.

The teen has also starred in The Impossible alongside Naomi Watts

Commenting on the announcement, Sony Pictures motion pictures group chairman, Tom Rothman, said: "It's a big day here at Sony.

"The Marvel process is very thorough, and that's why their results are so outstanding. I'm confident Spider-Man will be no exception.... For Spidey himself, we saw many terrific young actors, but Tom's screen tests were special.

"All in all, we are off to a roaring start."

The first film from the new Spiderman franchise will be released on July 28 2017.
