Health chiefs have teamed up with Disney in a bid to make children more active, with a series of fun, free workouts taking place in Hounslow .

Public Health England has enlisted the help of Disney characters from films like Frozen, Toy Story and new release Finding Dory to make exercise fun for youngsters.

The Change4Life 10 Minute Shake Ups with Disney see animated favourites spurring children on to try short games and activities which get them moving.

To promote the new campaign, One You Hounslow is hosting 10 Minute Shake Up sessions, supported by Hounslow Council , during July.

The free workouts will take place every weekday lunchtime from July 11-29, between 12pm and 2pm, at Studio 700, in the Treaty Centre, High Street, Hounslow.

No need to book ahead for free Disney workouts

Councillor Corinna Smart, the council's cabinet member for public health and leisure, said: "We’re delighted to be part of an exciting project like this. The summer holidays can seem really long but there are lots of great ideas to get children up and about with new 10 Minute Shake Ups.

"Lots of children love Disney characters and I am sure this will help motivate and encourage them to take part in some form of exercise with much enthusiasm."

It is hoped the campaign will help reduce childhood obesity, which can lead to life-threating diseases like cancer, type 2 diabetes and heart disease.

There's no need to book a place at the sessions, but for more information you can call One You Hounslow on 020 8973 3530 or email Changeforlife.hounslow@nhs.net.

A gym in Hounslow earlier this year launched free classes aimed specifically at three to five-year-olds after it emerged more than a third of children in the borough leave primary school overweight.

It's not just humans who could do with exercising more. getwestlondon recently reported how more and more pudgy pooches are having to be put on weight loss regimes.
