Crisps, crisps and more crisps, that's what's on the food menu at a brand new restaurant in London.

Hipchips launched on November 22 on Old Compton Street in Soho and serves freshly cooked, hand-made potato crisps alongside a selection of sweet and savoury dips.

But if you do have chance to pop along to the restaurant, don't be expecting to buy a traditional bag of crisps for a small handful of change.

If that is what you're looking for, you should probably head to the local supermarket instead.

Hipchips' ambition is to create the best tasting chips in the world, but if you want a taste, you could be forking out up to £11.50 on their larger dishes.

You can also buy alcohol to go with your crisps

Head chef, Scott Davies, has spent the last two years developing the concept, alongside co-founder David Morris.

He said: "I've taken my inspiration for the sweet crisps from doughnuts by sprinkling them with cinnamon sugar as soon as they come out of the fryer.

"These with the dips really form a classic pairing, which we will change weekly and seasonally."

The potatoes used are from the north of England and each have their own unique colour and flavour ranging from the highland burgundy, salad blue and shetland black.

Oh and there is even a conveyor belt of crisps, and Mr Davies said he takes his crisp making very seriously.

Now, a crisp restaurant doesn't open every day, and naturally, people on social media have had something to say about it.

Others think the idea is slightly crazy.

And some think £11.50 is a bit pricey.

So what can you get your hands on at Hipchips?

For those looking for just a taste, a small box of crisps accompanied by two dips will cost £4.50, a medium box with three dips will cost £6.75 and a large box with six dips will set you back £11.50.

Dips are both sweet ans savoury

Examples of dips:

  • Peruvian ceviche (V)
  • Smokey cheese fondue picked red onion (V)
  • Beetroot and lemongrass marmalade (v)

And for those with a sweet tooth...

  • Chocolate Nutella
  • Chocolate salty caramel
  • Cheesecake

If you're someone who likes a cheeky tipple to go with your bag of crisps, well you are in luck because the menu isn't just reserved for crisps and dips.

Craft beers, wine and soft drinks are also available, and if you haven't got time to stop, you can even order a takeaway.

The restaurant is open from 12pm to 11pm on Monday to Thursday, until midnight on Friday and Saturday and it closes at 10pm on Sundays.
