To commemorate the 75th anniversary of the Battle of Britain, Bentley Priory Museum will be increasing the museum’s opening days and hosting a series of activities throughout September.

As Headquarters Fighter Command, Bentley Priory played a pivotal role during the Battle of Britain.

Bentley Priory Museum commemorates the contribution of The One, Air Chief Marshal Sir Hugh Dowding, The Few, the Battle of Britain aircrew and some of The Many, those who worked on the ground to ensure victory.

In addition to its usual opening days of Mondays, Wednesdays, Fridays and Saturdays, the Museum will be open on all Sundays in September, from 10am to 5pm.

It will also open on Tuesday (September 15), also known as Battle of Britain Day - when the Luftwaffe co-ordinated large bombing raids over London and the South of England, but suffered significant losses.

A few fighter aircraft from The Battle of Britain Day Flypast, organised by Boultbee Academy are due to fly over Bentley Priory, subject to weather, with timings to be confirmed on the Battle of Britain Day website.

On Saturday (September 19), Sunday (September 20) and Saturday (September 26), there will be special performances of a bespoke new choral composition Fighter Command and the Battle for Britain, which will be performed by local choir, Tonic Choir and young people from St Johns CofE School, Grimsdyke School and Harrow Youth Choir.

The performances have been funded by the Arts Council England and Heritage Lottery Fund.

A flypast over Bentley Priory Museum from the Battle of Britain Memorial Flight has been requested for Saturday (September 19) at 3pm, subject to weather.

Advance tickets are needed for September 19, 20 and 26 as admission tickets will not be available on the day.

They are now available to purchase from the Museum’s Reception or on 020 8950 5526.

Other events include vintage hair & make-up on Saturday September 26 and a temporary exhibition commemorating the important contribution of Polish aircrew during World War II, which is included in the normal admission costs to the museum.

The 17,000 Reasons to Remember exhibition has been curated from stories of surviving Polish Air Force veterans and will be on display at the Museum from Wednesday (September 9) to Saturday October 3.
