Self-taught artist Aime Hansen, from Hatch End, is holding her third ever solo exhibition in Harrow next month.

In Magic Mirrors, Aime will have 50 pieces of her work on display, demonstrating her contemporary use of bold colours to create visual architectural forms.

She is inspired, among other things, by her travels through India, Burjatia and her love of minimalist and conceptual art.

Her artistic influences include Botticelli and Kandinsky. She is a fan of prehistoric art, such as cave paintings and visual symbols of ancient civilisations, which is demonstrated in her minimalist style.

Originally from Estonia, she says: "I enjoy playing with colour and form, I learned more about modern art at university as I had many artistic friends. Although I studied linguistics, I was often sidetracked by artistic activities."

Many of her images are conceptual: Aime illustrates the essence of time but not by using obvious symbolism such as watches, and she stresses the importance of the interaction between the image and the title.

As a long-time fan of many artistic disciplines, she has had four books of poetry published, and has been a theatre practitioner and performance artist in and around London.

Aime, who started painting seriously about five years ago, says: "Visual art is for things that cannot be explained in words. I am sure people see my artwork in many different ways, depending how it relates to their own experiences."

* Magic Mirrors can be seen at Harrow Arts Centre in Uxbridge Road, Hatch End, until Friday February 27. The free exhibition is open weekdays from 9am to 5pm and occasionally later on weekdays and at weekends.
