FORMER members of the Stanmore Art Society that folded last summer have come together to put on a one-off exhibition.

Fifteen artists, calling themselves Stanmore Painters Re-united, will display about 70 pictures at Stanmore Library, in Stanmore Hill.

Co-organiser Pam Adsley said: "There was an extraordinary general meeting in July 2009 where it was resolved to wind up the society.

"Although there were about 35 members in attendance, we could not find six people to hold office and form a working committee."

The chairman, Alan Conybeare, arranged free membership for Stanmore members with the Watford and Bushey Art Society until the end of that year.

Some artists did not take up the offer but still wanted a local outlet for work, so next month's exhibition was arranged.

Mrs Adsley said: "There will be work in watercolour, line and wash, pastel, oil, acrylic, collage and mixed media in a range of styles depicting subjects from traditional landscapes and local views to more abstract concepts.

"There will be pottery by Michael Dixon too and all work will be for sale. Many of

the artists are highly regarded locally, having sold many times at the SAS exhibitions which used to be held at Bernays Institute in Stanmore.

"Several artists reproduce their work as greetings cards and these too will be available at the exhibition."

The free Stanmore Painters Re-united exhibition at Stanmore Library runs from Saturday, October 2, to Friday, October 15, and is open during library hours (closed Wednesdays and Friday afternoons).
