BBC foreign correspondent Fergal Keane OBE is to open the 49th Bedford Park Festival.

The international journalist, broadcaster and author - who lives in Chiswick - will welcome hundreds of people to the opening of the Green Days fete and craft fair on Saturday (June 13) as part of Chiswick's fortnight of arts and community events.

He will also be judging the children's Alice in Wonderland fancy dress competition with Father Kevin Morris, vicar of St Michael & All Angels, Bedford Park, which runs the festival, as well as a poetry evening to celebrate the 150th birthday of WB Yeats.

His charity Msaada, which helps the forgotten victims of the Rwandan genocide, is one of the three chosen charities for this year's festival.

The festival is also raising money for The Upper Room who feed and support the community in need in west London and The Mulberry Centre in Isleworth, which provides information, advice and support to all those affected by cancer and St Michael’s Organ and Parish Rooms Appeal.

The Bedford Park Festival runs from June 12 to 28.
