Acclaimed playwright and director John Godber will direct a UK tour of his play April in Paris starring TV favourites Joe McGann (The Upper Hand) and Shobna Gulati (Coronation Street).
Audiences can see the production at Richmond Theatre from Tuesday September 9 until Saturday 13.
Al and Bet’s relationship is on the rocks. He recently lost his job, while she works in a shoe shop and can only dream of a better life. But things are about to change. When Bet wins a romantic night in Paris, the city of love, Al wonders who she’ll take with her. Resigned to taking her husband, Paris actually reignites their relationship as never before, but the reality of returning home looms large. This hilarious romantic adventure, featuring John Godber’s unique brand of observational comedy, was nominated Comedy of the Year in the Olivier Awards.
Shobna Gulati is best known for her roles in Victoria Wood’s Dinnerladies and ITV’s Coronation Street, as well as her recent TV appearances on Loose Women. Joe McGann’s television credits include The Upper Hand which ran for six years, and he has appeared on stage in roles such as Nathan Detroit in Guys and Dolls, Tevye in Fiddler on the Roof and Ray Say in The Rise and Fall of Little Voice.
April in Paris earned Godber an Olivier nomination when it first ran at London’s Ambassadors Theatre in 1994. April in Paris is produced by Paul Tyrer & Jamie Clark for April in Paris Ltd with Jane Walmsley and Michael Braham for JAM Pictures Ltd, in association with Derby Theatre.
