A quartet of artists from west London have secured the coveted chance to exhibit their work at London's Barbican Centre.

Tracing Time, Placing Marks features pieces inspired by Britain's evolving landscape and the changes wrought by nature and mankind.

The free exhibition by members of the London Artist Printmakers will open at the Barbican Library on Friday, September 30, and will run until October 26.

Jenny Lagnado, a former teacher who lives in Isleworth and has taught at West Thames College and Chiswick School , among other establishments, is part of the collective.

She said she and her fellow artists had found their muse in subjects as diverse as rock formations, the traces of old industry on the Cornish coast and the rural poetry of John Clare.

She added that the display would include not just the finished works but also the many steps taken to get there, offering viewers an insight into the creative journey.

"Often you go to an exhibition and you just see the finished pieces, which look as though they've sprung from nowhere," she said.

"We will be showing everything from a scribble on the back of an envelope to our sketch books with preparatory drawings to reveal the full process."

The other artists whose works will be on display are Eleanor Durbin, Martin Henley and Frances Kiernan.

On Wednesday, October 19, from 12.30pm to 1.15pm, poet Jenny Lewis will give a free reading at the venue of extracts from John Clare's poetry and her own verses chosen to chime with the exhibition.
