Brentford's 2-1 win over Preston was a much-needed tonic after a difficult start to the season at Griffin Park.

The Bees looked set to be heading for defeat before Sergi Canos' cameo ignited a fightback as goals from Lasse Vibe and Marco Djuricin overhauled Daniel Johnson's early strike.

Below are five key points from the victory.

Yes he Canos

Livewire: Sergi Canos

Looking at the Brentford bench before the game I couldn't see any of them coming on and being able to change the game given the inexperience in the forward positions. Sergi Canos proved me wrong with one of the most exciting half-hours I've seen in a long time.

The 18-year-old lit up Griffin Park with a bursting run forward and set up Lasse Vibe for his equaliser. Preston didn't know how to cope with him and soon found themselves behind to Marco Djuricin. The Liverpool loanee is a box of tricks and has no qualms in just taking on the defence.

He could have found himself sent off for two bookable offences, brought about by the exuberance of youth, and needed to be calmed down by the experienced Alan McCormack and Lasse Vibe. As long as he maintains that raw enthusiasm for playing football, Canos will go far in the game.

Confident Clarke

Good job: Josh Clarke

It looked as if Josh Clarke would be in for a long 90 minutes after being exposed for Preston's opener after 32 seconds. He had a difficult opening 10 minutes then started to exert himself to produce a measured performance at right back.

He had grown into the game so well that it was a surprise when Marinus Dijkhuizen replaced him with Sergi Canos but the move turned out to be a masterstroke.

It wasn't the perfect performance from the 20-year-old but there were encouraging signs that Clarke could well establish himself as a capable Championship right back, especially if Maxime Colin is ruled out for a long period of time.

Buoyant Barbet

Impressed: Yoann Barbet

Yoann Barbet also made his home league debut and, much like Clarke, had a difficult opening 10 minutes but kept trying to play his football and, as a reward, grew into the game.

The defence has looked ropey in recent weeks at Griffin Park but the Frenchman's partnership with the superb Harlee Dean seemed to be taking off with the balance of having one right-sided defender and one left-sided defender helping matters.

After a shaky start against Oxford, the Frenchman has given Marinus Dijkhuizen a selection headache once James Tarkowski returns from injury.

Heroic Harlee

Giant: Harlee Dean

Harlee Dean has been maligned, unfairly in my view, by sections of supporters over the past 12 months. It would have been difficult for him to be playing his second game alongside Yoann Barbet and his first with Josh Clarke to his right.

However, he helped captain Jake Bidwell marshal the defence superbly and won every header he went for in the second half.

Dean showed admirable leadership and desire, not that this is new as he battled with a broken foot at Leyton Orient in 2014 after James Tarkowski's red card to help the Bees to promotion. Hopefully, he will agree the new deal that has been offered to him.

Injuries

Brentford Manager Marinus Dijkhuizen before the match

Marinus Dijkhuizen would be able to enjoy his Saturday evening after his second victory in charge. He'll also be delighted none of his players picked up further injuries.

The Dutchman's squad is depleted enough as it is and not many clubs have had 15 players either ruled out or concerns over going into a match.

He's not had the good fortune regarding fitness that seemed to bless predecessor Mark Warburton. Despite that, he made all the right moves when it came to substitutions. Maybe his luck is starting to turn.
