Brett Taylor has made perhaps the shortest possible journey to his new job after leaving Richmond.

The former director of rugby has left to join Richmond's co-tenants at the Athletic Ground, and National Three (South) rivals, London Scottish.

In his place, Richmond have appointed Geoff Richards as head coach to oversee the London League One champions' return to the national leagues.

Richards was in charge of the England Women's team from 2000-2007, during which time he led them to four Grand Slams, three Triple Crowns and two World Cup runners-up spots.

More recently, he has been coaching England U18s while also working as a specialist skills coach with Harlequins.

Richards' playing career saw him captain Wasps as well as play for Middlesex, Barbarians, England U23 and Australia, while playing for Eastern Suburbs.

He said: "I am delighted to be taking up this post at such an old established club. "There is much to do with the season less than three weeks away, but I relish the challenge of continuing Richmond's journey to the heart of the national leagues."

Meanwhile, Richmond chairman David Corben wished Taylor well and insisted there were no hard feelings.

He added: "I would like to thank Brett for his hard work and for all the success he has achieved whilst at Richmond.

"He has laid foundations for well-coached and well-organised rugby throughout the club and helped deliver us back into the national leagues, which was one of the milestones we set ourselves having been demoted eight leagues in 2000.

"This legacy will be invaluable for Geoff as he takes on the challenge from here, and we are very excited at having someone of his pedigree on the team."
