Jye Dance grabbed the winning try and conversion in the dying minutes to make West London Sharks Rugby League Conference Premier South champions on Saturday.

Sharks had already won the league at a canter unbeaten, but as with Super League, had to go through the play-offs and beat teams who they'd already trumped before being crowned champions.

And that they did, with a thrilling 24-20 win over rivals South London Storm at their home in McFarlane Lane, Osterley.

But it was Storm who took first blood with a converted try on 10 minutes, and it was another 10 minutes before Sharks pulled level through Robbie McKenzie's try and Liam Bartel's conversion.

Things then started to go wrong for Sharks, as Storm ran in two tries to go in at the break 16-6 up.

However, Craig Kruger was having none of it, and within a minute of the restart had pulled a try back.

And when Kruger bagged his second on 55 minutes, Storm's lead was cut to just two points.

Sharks went ahead for the first time with 20 minutes left when Josh Aomarere, but a third missed conversion of the day meant their lead was narrow.

They were nearly made to pay when, six minutes from time, Storm crossed the try-line again and went two points in front again.

But Sharks, facing their first defeat of the season, snatched victory with just two minutes left when Dance bagged the winning try and conversion.

That was not the end of the action, however, and a Storm player was being held up while trying to

ground the ball as the final whistle went.

Sharks are now through to the National Semi-Finals in Gloucester on Sunday, bidding for a place in the National Final in Derby on September 7.

It is the first time they have come this far since losing the National Final to Widnes Saints in 2004.

Coach Louise Latter said: "It was not a good match to watch for the nerves, but we did it... just!"

Sharks' second team are London League champions after beating Bedford 40-24 before the main event, while the women's team are also in the National Semi-Finals, where they will play Warrington.

Two of the Sharks ladies, Heidi Shelberg and Leah Carey, have also been selected for England's Women's World Cup squad.
