Ruislip 53

Tabard 14

RUISLIP overcame the rain and fears of a wet pitch to record a 53-14 win over Tabard to start the season on a good note.

The wet weather stopped shortly after noon and the ground conditions improved greatly for an entertaining clash.

The visitors began the match as the better side and took an 8-0 lead after 15 minutes through a try and a penalty.

Ruislip fought back and managed to put together a decent run of play but were met by an equally determined Tabard defence.

It was the hosts who finally made a breakthrough as they broke the visitors’ resolve with two tries.

The half time score was 17-11 in favour of Ruislip, a fair reflection of a closely fought first half.

If the first half was even, the second period was considerably more one-sided in Ruislip’s favour as they scored six tries.

Dan O’Leary and Jonny Fieldhouse both got their name on the scoresheet before Alex Fieldhouse scored the best effort, running the length of the pitch from a Tabard lineout on the Ruislip line.

Man of the match Sam Hainsworth added another try before Luke Eastwell and Alex Fieldhouse added further scores for the hosts.

The final score of 53-14 was flattering for Ruislip, but it was the best possible start to the season.

Elsewhere, Old Merchant Taylors’ lost 23-17 to Wasps FC in London Division Three North West.
