A serious injury to key player Dan Pitkin heaped further misery on Uxbridge as they suffered their second successive defeat at home to the Honourable Artillery Corps.

Pitkin hurt his knee inside the opening 10 minutes at Park Road and he looks likely to be out for months rather than weeks if it turns out to be a recur-rence of the problem that almost cut short his career a few years ago.

Uxbridge were much improved in the set piece and tackle area but they failed to show any improvement in their defensive organisation and they gifted the HAC backs a handful of overlap opportunities. The hosts flung the game away with a couple of interception passes that HAC gratefully accepted and the glorious sunshine was nice for spectators but not much fun for the players who wilted in the heat despite Ian Hambley's try.

Uxbridge hope for better luck in the EDF Vase away to Old Economicals on Saturday. [25a0] The seconds lost a friendly 72-19 to Old Actonian II, Tom Hall-Jones, Fergus Percivall and Rob Ellingham with their tries. They host Hampstead in the opening Division Five Merit Table game on Saturday.

The club is close to fielding a third team and anyone interested should see www.uxbridgerfc.co.uk  for details.
