Rugby League is coming to Ealing - and to herald its arrival London Broncos are holding an open training session on Monday where fans can watch players put through their paces and take part in a range of activities.

The capital’s nomads are giving west London a go at Trailfinders Sports Club in Ealing after spending the last two years in north London.

The club began as Fulham in 1980 but have endured multiple name changes at more than 20 venues in their 35-year history. However, they are convinced the move to Ealing will see them put down firm roots and blossom.

Kick start: Wes Naiqama

Coach Andrew Henderson said: “Obviously the club is moving home again but it’s a little bit different this time. It has struggled to find a base or a home to really build an identity that people can resonate with and feel part of and that’s been the issue since its existence.

“For the first time in the club’s history we’re going to be at one venue. We’re starting to build the foundations of the club, which is really exciting. That’s one of the reasons why we’ve moved, because it gives us that opportunity.”

The team were relegated from the top tier of the game, Super League, in 2014 and finished seventh in the Championship last season. For the last two years they have played their matches in north London at the home of Barnet FC but moving to Ealing will allow them to centralise their operation.

In hand: Broncos coach Andrew Henderson

Henderson believes his squad will be more competitive than last year when they finished seventh. “We’ll certainly have a lot more strength in depth and I think the balance of the squad is going to be a lot better,” he said. “There are a lot of positives.”

Next Monday, the first team and academy will train from 2pm to 3pm with players being available for photographs and autographs after the session. At 4pm the Broncos will be announcing their squad numbers for the new season followed by a Q and A session with a selection of players. The club’s new home shirt and other merchandise will be available.

The Broncos kick off their season in Ealing with a game against Swinton Lions on Sunday, February 14.
