Two tries in as many first-half minutes set Grasshoppers on the road to victory over London New Zealand on Saturday.

First, stand-off Russell Fielding crossed the line to ease some early pressure from the Kiwi exiles, and Thomas Orishaguna converted.

Then, more or less straight from the restart, Hosea Leokava-Tanni finished off a fine passage of play under the posts, with Orishaguna again adding the extras.

A penalty for the Kiwis before the break was followed by a try after it as the visitors fought their way back into the game.

But a Gerwyn Hughes penalty got Gs back on track before Orishaguna added a final try, which he converted himself,to secure a 24-8 win.

However, there were narrow defeats for the Second and Third XVs, 27-22 to Hammersmith & Fulham and 13-10 to Old Hamptonians.
