A DYNAMITE display by Ben Bishop-Jones provided crumbs of consolation for Harlequins Rugby League boss Brian McDermott following their opening day Super League defeat.

The on-loan Leeds Rhinos starlet scored two tries, but it was not enough to stop Quins going down 18-10 to Wakefield Trinity Wildcats at the Twickenham Stoop.

Having notched a first-half effort, Bishop-Jones bagged a second try five minutes into the second-half, which Danny Orr converted, to pull Quins back to within two points.

But it was the visitors who went on to score the next crucial try which saw the points return north toYorkshire.

McDermott said: "Ben Bishop-Jones has got some real class, and he’s showing touches that I don’t think many in the game have."

Another positive point was a Super League debut for Ben Bolger, but on a sour note, fellow young Londoner Louis McCarthy-Scarsbrook was red-carded for a second-half scuffle.

However, McDermott saw enough to feel good about this Sunday’s trip to Warrington Wolves.

He added: "One of our goals before the game was to give us something to build on this week, and I thought we got that. I was excited by our defensive performance in front of the try-line."
