NEWLY-crowned Hertfordshire and Middlesex Colts champions Ruislip completed their season last Saturday with an emphatic 62-5 victory against Yorkshire touring side Goole at West End Road.

Fresh from completing back to back league titles, having remained unbeaten for a second successive season in the league, the U18s claimed the ball from the opening kick-off and never looked back.

The Ruislip forwards immediately knocked their opponents off balance, securing quick ball to set up the talented back division which cut the Yorkshiremen to ribbons.

Time after time the speed of movement was too much for the visitors, whose long coach journey would not have helped their cause.

Fly-half Danny Barry ran the show with some pinpoint kicking and opened the scoring with a try in the corner after five minutes.

The one try Goole managed came from centre Tom Hibbert who burst through from the half-way line, brushing off four tackles in the process, but the result was never in doubt as the forwards provided the platform for the backs to pass the ball freely.

Barry (3), Harry Matthews (2), Michael Reed, Adam Van Arkel, James Dixon, Chris Robak and Graham Tufft all touched down while Barry (5) and Reed landed conversions.

It was a fine way to end an outstanding number of years together for the group of players, many of whom have played for Ruislip since the age of seven and will now move on to play for the senior sides, who staged their annual player awards dinner last Friday.

Ex-Wasps and England A international Peter Scrivener presented awards for the first team to Steve Robertson (players' player), Dan O'Leary (player of the year, chosen by the coaches) and Alex Williams (top trainer).

Second team honours went to Dan Harries (players' player) and Ollie Huddle (player of the year) and for the thirds they went to Scott Roberts (players' player), Dan Sellars (player of the year),

James Green (most improved) and Charley Cox (top try scorer).

Chris Milam was named coach of the year in recognition of his great work with the U16s. [25a0] Ruislip are hosting Premiership Touch Rugby games over the summer and teams are invited to enter.
