Hammersmith & Fulham 34-5 Enfield Ignatians
Double trouble came in the form of wing James Lo and Tony Bryant who helped Hammersmith and Fulham get their season back on track with a convincing 34-5 cup victory over Enfield.
Two early penalties from the boot of fullback Neil Mclure set Hammers’ on their way to a dominant first half. First phase ball from a powerful driving maul provided the platform for the backline to execute a set play, with Lo punching a hole in the visitors’ defence to claim his first try of the afternoon.
The second half saw Lo add a second and Bryant soon followed, his first a spectacular full length of the pitch break. A trademark dummy and hand-off combination saw the powerful centre sprint free of the scrambled defence and touch down.
After a disappointing league loss the week before, head Coach David Mannion said: “That was a better performance, but we’ll need to be better again next week.”
Watching the win were four original Hammers from the club’s first ever game in 1978.
Steve Pilbeam, Terry Alleyne, Ray Bateman and Marco DeVeras all lined up against Wasps RFC 38 long years ago.
Club chairman Alleyne said: “It was was a great day for all four veterans, as they saw Hammers produce sparkling rugby to win convincingly and progress to the next round.”
