Chiswick rugby league side South West London Chargers retained their London Premier League title with a convincing 32-12 victory over London Skolars A on Saturday.

They led 30-0 early in the second half, and although Skolars hit back with three unconverted tries, they had left themselves too much to do.

Chargers , playing with a strong wind at their backs, opened the scoring after just five minutes when centre Tala Petelo came steaming onto a short pass to score by the posts.

James Boller converted, and they went further ahead midway through the half when Tom Poole claimed another, with Boller making it 12-0 with the conversion.

Skolars were giving too much ball away with handling errors and conceding territory through penalties, and Chargers took advantage with another try when the ball was moved wide to wing David Wojciechowicz, who touched down in the corner, and Boller landed a fine touchline conversion to give his side an 18-0 half time lead.

Only a minute into the second half they struck again, Skolars knocked on straight from the kick off and Chargers took full advantage when Sam Gilbert touched down under the posts to present Boller with another simple conversion.

Four minutes later, Wojciechowicz collected his second try after Chargers kept the ball alive on the sixth tackle and moved it smartly wide for the left wing to cross in the corner, and Boller again converted from the touchline.

To their credit, Skolars stuck to their task and got their reward with three late tries, the last one coming when Chargers were reduced to 12 men after Steve Whitton was sent to the sin bin, but Chargers had the final say with a penalty from Boller.

Earlier, Chargers' A team lost the First Division Grand Final 16-12 to Beckenham Bears in a competitive contest in which the lead changed hands four times.

Leon Blacker got the first points on the board for Chargers with an early penalty, but just before half time, Beckenham took the lead with a converted try.

Chargers drew level after the break with a fine individual effort from full-back Ben Hird, and although the Bears regained the lead with a try, back came the Chargers, with Matt Dudley touching down and Joe Purnell’s conversion edging ahead.

However, with less than a minute remaining, Beckenham charged to the line and wrestled the lead for a final time, as well as the trophy from Chargers' grasp.
