Former Ealing Rugby Club boss Mike Cudmore has confirmed he is taking over as director of rugby at London One South side Cobham.

Cudmore, who led Ealing Trailfinders to five promotions and a season in the Championship, walked away from Vallis Way last month - unable to prevent the side from dropping back to National League rugby.

Cudmore said: “It’s a part-time role that suits me down to the ground, especially as I live only 20 minutes away.

“I did think about whether I wanted to stay in rugby or not and felt it could only be if an opportunity came up at the right club, and this is it.

“They are a nice bunch of guys at the club with a great philosophy of developing young players and of throwing the ball around - things I believe in.

“The facilities are unbelievable and they have a great youth and minis section.

“For me, it means dropping down a division or two, but they are club with ambitions to reach a couple of leagues up so it will be nice to see what we can do.”

Although Cudmore will take on the role of director of rugby part-time, he will be in sole charge of first team affairs.

The Surrey club have been in their current division for six seasons and finished mid-table in the season just gone.
