RFU CHAMPIONSHIP

Leeds Carnegie 64-3 Ealing Trailfinders

Ealing Trailfinders showed glimpses of their expansive style – but not enough to trouble one of the hot promotion favourites.

Having lost their opening three games in the division and having found it hard to stem the flow of points conceded, the Green Army half expected another bloody nose at the weekend.

And Leeds did not take long to open the scoring when full-back Stevie McColl took a reverse pass and found a way through the defence, which fly-half Alex Lozowski converted.

Soon after, the Ealing-born Lozowski stretched the lead further with a long-range penalty from the halfway line.

Andy Hall hit back with a three-pointer for Ealing soon after, but points were hard to come by as the hosts stretched their lead in front of a Friday night crowd.

Scrum-half Craig Hampson wiggled through to score and before centre Josh Griffin added a third try and just before half-time, captain Jacob Rowan powered through to wrap up the four-try bonus point.

Trailfinders’ spirited display continued after half-time as they added pace to their game and began to stretch the home side’s defence.

However, after nearly 20 minutes it was Leeds' No8 Ryan Burrows who broke the second half deadlock.

As the match drew to a close Leeds wing Jonah Holmes scored a fortunate fifth and hooker Joe Graham added a sixth. Lozowski continued his impressive form with the boot and then added then seventh try himself.
